A query is a set of commands that return data from a database, now when a lot of users are using a database optimization of queries becomes of paramount importance, in order to return large datasets in an acceptable time.

By optimization or tuning we mean tweaking an SQL script in order to process it quicker and return data faster. There are many ways to do this and can be done at select level, from clause and or where clause.

It is also possible to optimize some of the commands or ways of returning data in the select statement.
